A new species of Aphanotorulus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the rio Aripuanã basin, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Oliveira,Andreza S.; Py-Daniel,Lúcia Rapp; Zawadzki,Cláudio H..
ABSTRACT The cis-Andean genus Aphanotorulus was recently revised and comprises six valid species: A. ammophilus, A. emarginatus, A. gomesi, A. horridus, A. phrixosoma and A. unicolor. Herein, a new species is described from tributaries of the rio Aripuanã basin, in Amazonas and Mato Grosso states, Brazil. The new species is easily distinguished from congeners by its color pattern: caudal fin with upper lobe mostly hyaline with dark spots along rays and membranes, and lower lobe red and without dark spots; and absence of dark spots in the lateral series of mid-ventral plates.

A new species of armored catfish Parotocinclus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the rio Parnaíba basin, northeastern, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Ramos,Telton P. A.; Lima,Sergio M. Q.; Ramos,Robson T. da Costa.
ABSTRACT Recent taxonomic studies indicated the presence of several undescribed species in the rio Parnaíba basin. Among those, a new species of Parotocinclus endemic of this drainage is herein described. It differs from most of its congeners, including the sympatric P. haroldoi and P. cearensis, by a vestigial or rudimentary adipose fin (vs. conspicuous adipose fin). This character is also present in P. bidentatus and P. muriaensis (both from the rio Paraíba do Sul basin, southeastern Brazil), P. spilurus (rio Jaguaribe basin, northeastern Brazil), P. seridoensis (rio Piranhas-Açu basin, northeastern Brazil), P. halbothi (rios Trombetas and Marowijne basins, northern Brazil and Suriname) and P. dani (from rio Tapajós in Mato Grosso State, Brazil). Oliveira,Lívia M. A.; Zanata,Angela M.; Tencatt,Luiz F. C.; Britto,Marcelo R..
ABSTRACT A new species of Aspidoras from the rio da Dona basin, a small coastal river drainage in Bahia State, is described herein. The new taxon differs from its congeners by presenting infraorbital 1 with well-developed ventral laminar expansion, nuchal plate nearly reaching to or sometimes contacting posterior process of parieto-supraoccipital, anterior tip of nuchal plate just posterior to dorsal margin of first dorsolateral body plate, and blotches on dorsal half of dorsolateral body plates and/or ventral half of ventrolateral body plates fused with midlateral series of blotches, forming three or four enlarged and oblique black blotches.

A new species of Asplenium section Thamnopteris (Aspleniaceae) from Indonesia Naturalis
Dong, S.Y.; Mujahidin; Wei, L.L.; Chao, Y.S..
A new species, Asplenium riswanii (sect. Thamnopteris), is described from Central Java and West Papua, Indonesia. It is distinct from any known species by having thick and rigid fronds, abaxially keeled midribs, broadly lanceolate scales, and distantly spaced sori. Morphologically, A. riswanii is not similar to any species from Malesia but somewhat close to A. antrophyoides from mainland Southeast Asia. Molecular data reveal it has an isolated position in the phylogeny. The micromorphology of spores and leaf epidermis of A. riswanii is also documented and a key to the species of Asplenium sect. Thamnopteris from Malesia is given.

A new species of Astyanax (Characiformes: Characidae) from the rapids of the lower rio Xingu, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Lima,Flávio C.T.; Zuanon,Jansen.
Astyanax dnophos, new species, is described from the lower rio Xingu, Pará, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from its purported congeners by the presence of a broad longitudinal, midlateral dark stripe that extends from the snout to the caudal peduncle. Astyanax dnophos dwells on shadowed, rocky shelters on rapids, and it is apparently one of the few species of Characidae outside Serrasalminae reported to be rheophilic.

A new species of Astyanax (Characiformes: Characidae) from the rio de Contas basin, Bahia, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Zanata,Angela Maria; Burger,Rafael; Vita,George; Camelier,Priscila.
ABSTRACT A new species of Astyanax from tributaries of the rio de Contas, Bahia, Brazil, is described. The new species differs from congeners by having three horizontal series of scales from lateral line to pelvic-fin origin and the distal margin of third infraorbital distinctly separated from vertical and horizontal limbs of preopercle, leaving a broad area not covered by superficial bones. The new species further differs from most congeners by the presence of bony hooks on all fins of mature males. Particularly from congeners occurring in rivers of the Northeastern Mata Atlântica freshwater ecoregion, it further differs by having the highest body depth just anterior to the dorsal-fin origin, 34-37 pored lateral line scales, a vertically elongated...

A new species of Aulacigaster from Zurquí de Moravia, a Costa Rican cloud forest (Diptera: Aulacigastridae) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Rung,Alessandra.
ABSTRACT A new species of Aulacigaster Macquart, 1835 A. zurqui sp. nov., is described from Costa Rica. The new species, which is classified in the plesiomorphica species group following a cladistics analysis, can be separated from all congeners by having a triangular 1st flagellomere and stout body that is uniformly dark-brown to black. An expanded diagnosis of the plesiomorphica group and a modified key to the Neotropical Aulacigaster are provided to accommodate the new species.
